Most fence repairs cost $300 to $900 in 2026 by national figures. A small job such as one board, a latch or a gate adjustment is $100 to $300. A large one, with several posts or a section on the ground, is $900 to $2,500.
These price ranges are national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not our quotes. Fairfield County labor, the material you pick and what is in the ground on your lot all move the real number. Last checked October 2026.

How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?
Count the posts that have failed, because that is what you pay for. One or two posts is a standard repair. When most posts along a side are loose, rebuilding that side costs less than returning every spring for another post.
Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?
Usually it can. In Stamford a fence leans for three reasons: the post rotted where it meets the soil, the post was set too shallow and frost moved it, or wind kept working on a solid panel until the footing loosened. If the panels and rails are sound, only the posts need to be replaced.
How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?
One or two posts fall in the $300 to $900 national range. We dig out the old post and its concrete, set the new post about 42 inches down and re-attach the rails. A hole full of stones or a post beside a tree root adds time.
My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?
Repair it in most cases. A gate sags when the hinge post leans, the hinges wear or the frame goes out of square. We straighten or replace the post, brace the frame and move the latch to meet it. If the frame itself is rotted or cracked, a new gate is the honest answer.
How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?
It counts as a minor repair, $100 to $300 in the national figures. Many companies have a minimum charge for a visit, so list any loose pickets or wobbly posts when you call and have them done on the same trip.
My fence posts lifted over the winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?
Yes, but not by hammering them back down. This is frost heave: frozen soil grips a shallow footing and lifts it. The lasting repair is to remove the post and footing and set a new one below frost depth. Connecticut building departments use 42 inches for footings.
My fence line goes wavy every winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?
Some of each. Low, wet spots hold water and heave harder, and Stamford has plenty of them near brooks and at the bottom of slopes. But a post that reaches below the frost line stays put in that same soil. If the fence is rebuilt with posts just as shallow, it will wave again.
A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?
Often, yes. Most aluminum fence is sold as assembled sections, so a bent rail usually means a new section between two posts. Some brands let us change single pickets or rails. A photo of the damage and of a good section tells us which type you have.
We only give a firm price after seeing the yard, and the visit is free. Call (203) 409-8830 or text us a photo of the fence line.
